FOR SPONSOR FORM REQUESTS PERTAINING TO A SACRAMENT TO BE PERFORMED AT A PARISH WITHIN OUR DIOCESE, PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND USE THE FOLLOWING FORM:
– DIOCESE OF ST. AUGUSTINE SPONSOR/GODPARENT ELIGIBILITY FORM
We often receive requests for a letter asking us to attest to a certain individual's status as a practicing Catholic, and verifying that individual is eligible to serve as a Godparent, Confirmation Sponsor, or has met the requirements to receive a Sacrament in a Catholic Church where the individual is not currently registered. This is referred to as a Letter of Good Standing.
In order for you to be considered an active parishioner in good standing at St. Joseph Parish, and if you would like to receive validation of this, we require that you meet the following criteria:
REGISTERED MEMBER — If you are not sure if you are registered here at St. Joseph, please contact the parish office at 904-268-5422. — If you are an adult child of parents in the Parish, you must register separately. Adult children are removed from their parent's database file after age 25. — If you recently come from another parish and would like us to offer a Letter of Good Standing for you, once again, you will need to register here at St. Joseph. If you have been registered here at St. Joseph for less than 6 months, you will also need to bring a statement from your previous parish verifying you were a practicing parishioner there. — If you move, please make sure to register in the parish at your new location, and kindly notify us that you have moved.
INVOLVED — Volunteer to assist in a parish program, ministry, or activity.
FINANCIALLY CONTRIBUTE — You may either request and use your preprinted contribution envelopes, use one of our generic contribution envelopes available at all Masses, or contribute online via FaithDirect or PayPal, so that your financial contribution may be tracked. This will also allow us the ability to send you annual statements for your charitable deduction.
The purpose of these Letters of Good Standing is to show we value the example and commitment of godparents and sponsors, and it is hypocritical to stand up for someone when you either do not believe or practice what you profess. It would be also hypocritical of our priests to sign a letter stating that someone is an active and practicing Catholic if they are not sure that the individual is indeed an active and practicing Catholic.
