The Episcopal Ordination & Installation Committee of the Diocese of St. Augustine is busy preparing for the big day! Bishop-elect Erik Pohlmeier will become the diocese’s 11th bishop when he is consecrated and installed on July 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville. He succeeds Bishop Felipe Estévez, who is retiring after serving the diocese for 11 years.
Thursday, July 21, a Vespers service is scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
The ordination and installation Mass on July 22 is by invitation only. However, there will be several opportunities for the faithful to meet the new bishop beginning with a Mass in each of the five deaneries of the diocese. Here is the schedule. Saturday, July 23, Mass will be celebrated for the people of the Gainesville Deanery at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave. beginning at 6 p.m.
Sunday, July 24, a Mass where the new bishop will officially take possession of the Cathedral Basilica will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Monday, July 25, Mass will be celebrated for the North Jacksonville Deanery at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd. in Jacksonville beginning at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, July 26, Mass will be celebrated for the people of the St. Johns River Deanery at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 U.S. Highway 17 S., Fleming Island at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, July 27, Mass will be celebrated for the St. Augustine Deanery at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 31, the new bishop will make a pastoral visit to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 121 E. Duval Street in Jacksonville at 10 a.m.
Monday, August 1, a Mass will be celebrated for the people of the South Jacksonville Deanery at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd. at 7 p.m.
